The Basilica Series of Sacred Music

The National Shrine has available two Mass settings composed by our own Director of Music, Dr. Peter Latona, and Mr. Russell Weismann. These Mass settings employ the translation of the New Roman Missal and are intended to offer music that is easy to sing while expressing artistic beauty in keeping with the aesthetic that is the tradition of the Roman Catholic Church. It is our conviction that the New Roman Missal affords the opportunity to introduce settings of the ordinary that would prove to be a more dignified alternative to many of the pre-existing settings.

Annual Octave of Easter Organ Recital

Each year on the Octave of Easter, the Second Sunday of Easter, the Basilica plays host to a celebrity organist recital. The concert is open to the public and is free of charge.

This year's recital will be on Sunday, April 23 at 6:00pm in the Great Upper Church. David Baskeyfield, an English concert organist now living in Rochester, New York, will play.

Acknowledging the exalted mission Sacred Music has to the service of God and understanding the profound impact music has upon liturgical celebrations is what guides the efforts of the Musicians of the Basilica.

From organ accompaniment and cantors at midday liturgies leading the congregation in sacred song, to the Choir of the Basilica singing on Sundays and Solemnities throughout the year, to the Basilica’s four pipe Organs that not only add dignity and majesty to worship but have the unique ability to lead an assembly of thousands in prayer and praise, to a 56-bell Carillon heard on the hour beyond the walls of the Basilica, to Concerts and Recitals held throughout the year, to a Discography collection that allows you to bring a piece of all of these home, it is clear that Sacred Music is integral to worship at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

We invite you to experience the beauty that Sacred Music brings to the Basilica!  Link to Choir & Organ article on the Basilica.
