Mass Settings
|
We are pleased to announce two new Mass settings composed by our own Director of Music, Dr. Peter Latona, and our Associate Director, Mr. Russell Weismann. These Mass settings employ the translation of the New Roman Missal and are intended to offer music that is easy to sing while expressing artistic beauty in keeping with the aesthetic that is the tradition of the Roman Catholic Church. It is our conviction that the New Roman Missal affords the opportunity to introduce settings of the ordinary that would prove to be a more dignified alternative to many of the pre-existing settings. Dr. Latona’s Mass of the Immaculate Conception and Russell Weismann’s Mass of All Saints were premiered at the Basilica on December 8 and November 1, respectively. Mass of the Immaculate Conception was also sung at the Opening Mass of the Vigil for Life at the Basilica on January 22. To our delight, the music was sung quite successfully by the thousands in attendance, which we believe is a true testament to its “singability.” |
